Your student is invited to get a free heart screening in Point Loma at The Rock Church on Saturday, July 26 from 9am-1pm. Parents simply register at EPSaveALife.org to download a screening packet that you complete and bring to the event.

The screening is offered by the Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation, which has screened nearly 12,000 teens for heart abnormalities that put 1 in 100 students at risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest - the number two killer of youth under 25.

A June screening of 840 youth at Granite Hills High School revealed at least 8 at risk from an undetected heart condition.

Screenings consist of a health history, an EKG, and if indicated, an echocardiogram. These are not standard offerings during your child's annual physical, but they are so important because Sudden Cardiac Arrest often has no warning signs -- the first symptom could be death. The screening is free, painless, and quick - less than 30 minutes.

Students wear t-shirt, sweat pants or sports shorts to the screening. Girls wear a sports bra. If possible, please bring a self-addressed stamped envelope in which a copy of your child's EKG will be mailed back to you. Every screened student gets a Free Sub Card from Jersey Mike's.

We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to screen your teen.
