Core Academy 

What is Core Academy?

Core Academy (formerly known as Saturday School) is an additional instructional day offering academic support in various core subject areas to help students reach their academic goals. 
 

Who can attend?

Core Academy is open to all students as long as they register in advance. Students attending Core Academy may recover one (1) eligible full day absence or six (6) period absences for each full day (4 hours) of attendance at Core Academy.
 

When is Core Academy?

Core Academy is held on Saturdays from 8:00-12:00pm at Point Loma High School. Students MUST be on time in order to be permitted to attend. See the dates listed below.

How do I register to attend Core Academy?

Complete the paper registration in the Counseling Office.

What should I expect at Core Academy?

Sessions topics are developed based on student interest and/or need AND staffing availability. Students will have an opportunity to rank their choices during registration for Core Academy. Students may also elect to use the time as a study hall. Students will receive a written reminder notification the Friday before that notes location room and session topic.  Auto-calls also occur on Friday evening to the primary number on file (make sure your contact information in PowerSchool is up-to-date).

School rules apply!

  • Students are expected to participate in the session topic OR quietly work on work/homework/silent reading throughout the duration of Core Academy
  • Dress code applies. 
  • Be respectful of school property and school personnel. 
  • Arrive on time! 
  • Failure to abide by policy or directives from personnel will result in student removal from Core Academy and meeting with administrator upon return to school the following week.
