Prerequisites:  Ability to learn cheer routines quickly and make a year-long commitment to all required Cheer activities.  Cheerleaders must maintain a 3.0 citizenship grade-point average and a 3.0 academic grade point average in order to tryout and participate once on the squad.  Parental permission, a completed Athletic Packet with physical, and a completed and signed PLHS Cheer application and contract are required in order to tryout and then participate in PLHS Cheer.  Students in grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to try-out for the Junior Varsity squad.  Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are eligible to try-out for the Varsity squad. Tryouts are held during the spring semester; squad placement is based on grade level and overall tryout score.

MARCHING BAND - Grades 9,10,11,12

Core - Grades 9,10

Elective -  Grades 11,12

Prerequisites:  Teacher recommendation.  Good citizenship and attendance are required.  Each fall, one semester of physical education credit will be earned by all marching band members.  

SURF P.E. – Grades 10, 11, 12

Description – This course will challenge student’s athletic abilities, develop student’s surfing knowledge, understanding and thinking, while also helping to prepare students for high levels of achievement in Surfing competitions.  The emphasis of the class will be on surfing, fitness, and developing a lifestyle plan that enhances personal health and performance in future leisure and competitive activities.  

Prerequisites:  All students must pass a swim test administered by a SD Lifeguard at a time and place established for the class by the PLHS P.E. department.  All students must also fill out and complete the Athletic Packet. 

 Physical Education - Interscholastic Athletics (Sport PE)  - Grades 9,10,11,12

Description -  Point Loma fields teams in numerous sports with most sports represented by both a varsity and junior varsity team.  All students in 9th and 10th grade are required to make a TWO sport commitment, in order to participate in 6th period Athletics. The junior varsity teams are organized in most sports to give students a chance to gain the experience necessary for varsity competition.
