To type Chinese at home: Switch to Chinese by select CH from the language bar at the bottom of the computer screen. If the language bar does not show up, right-click on the bar at the bottom of the screen, click on Toolbars, and select Language Toolbar to make sure it is turned on.
Computers at school should allow you to type Chinese. If you want to type Chinese at home, go to the Control Panel and choose Language and Regional Options. Then select Add Languages, Languages tab, scroll to and select Chinese (PRC) and click on the Add button.
If your machine is recently purchased and equipped with the recent version of Microsoft Word, go to Control panel > Regional languages > Add Chinese, and select Simplified IME Input. The button EN will appear on the bottom of the screen, and you click on it to switch to Chinese or other languages.
If you are using an older machine, you may have to download Microsoft Global Input Input Method Editors from the Microsoft website.
