Attendance and Last Assignment!!

Good Morning AP Chem,

Well this is it, the last post I will be giving you this year.  I am super proud of all of you hanging in there and attacking the AP exam.  This has not been an easy situation.

I'm sorry that our school year was cut short, we still had a couple of fun labs to do :(

Please take your time with this last assignment, it is posted on the GC, along with attendance instructions on the stream.  The information in this assignment is important and keep in mind, we really didn't even talk much about methane.  It has a better ability to absorb infrared than carbon dioxide.  Scientists figure the amount of methane that will be released from thawing permafrost will be disastrous.  So, we have to work to keep the global temperature down and we all have to do our part.  This isn't a hoax, this is reality.

I hope you all have a somewhat normal summer and hopefully we can say hi face to face next school year.

Due:

Atmospheric Science & Grades

Hello AP Chem,

I apologize for not posting to this website on Tuesday, I could not get it to work all day!

As many of you see I have posted on the GC stream for you to comment for attendance purposes  I have also uploaded a second assignment about Climate Science.  These lessons are not mandatory, but I will put them into the grade book in the lab category.  If you don't turn it in I will leave the score blank, that means it won't count for or against you.  I will post 3 more lessons next week and then that will be it!

I'm going to input the Progress Check grades today, they were mandatory.  As I finalize your semester grades I will be looking at your ap exam responses if you are in the middle of a grade bracket, ie 85% to decide how I will proceed.  Nevertheless, I'm going to round and give everyone an extra 2%.

I am not going to be adding your exam "score" to the grade book.  After this testing situation I have no idea how they are going to score your exams, meaning their curve.  They have not provided scoring rubrics for the questions and so I can't be certain that my scoring will match theirs.  I don't want to give anyone false ideas one way or the other.  We will all have to wait until July 15 to get your scores!  But I will use your responses if you are sitting on the fence with your grade.

Email me if you have any questions.  I can't believe we are almost done!  What is school going to look like next year?  From your comments it looks like very few of you would like to go to school 5 days a week.  We will see...

Due:

Attendance 5/22

Hello AP Chem,

Hope everyone is well, bustling to prep for AP World.  I've posted on the GC stream.  I will mark you present this week if you comment on the post.

Thanks and have a good week!

Due:

Attendance Will Be Taken TODAY 5/21...

... because tomorrow is a school holiday!  Day 1 of a 4 day Memorial Day weekend.

Enjoy!

Due:

Congratulations and Attendance

Good Morning AP Chem,

Congratulations to all of you!  I'm sorry to those of you who experienced technical difficulties.  It was not your fault and it must have been a huge disappointment.  You have 48 hours to request a make up exam.  If you had any technical glitches please consider taking the exam again in June.  But if you do need to take it again, leave the Chemistry alone until after Memorial Day weekend.  You need a rest from Chemistry.

I am going to mark everybody present today for attendance because the vast majority of you took the AP exam yesterday.

I will not be assigning anything academically until after the Memorial Day weekend, then we will do some climate science.

I will post to the GC stream on Monday that you will need to comment on at some point next week for attendance purposes.  Otherwise I'm signing off for the next week, but I will be checking my email.

I'm super proud of all of you, you truly are warriors during this very difficult time :)

Due:

Test Day!

Good Luck!

Read the questions carefully, the devil is in the DETAILS.  Pay attention to sig figs.

You might want to get your notes handy about assigning oxidation state, 10/15.

After you check in at 10:30 and are waiting impatiently for the first question to appear, go over your ion cards and read the purpose for each lab in your lab notebook.  This will take your mind off your misery

This is it, take a deep breath and do YOUR best!  Chem is TRY  :)

Due:

Testing Resources and the Last FRQ

Take a deep breath!

Attached you will find the exam day checklist, please print this if you haven't already or download it onto your desktop.

This is my list of what I think you should have handy during testing:
calculator
periodic table
equation sheet
shape table
rate law table
lab notebook
personal reference sheet
princeton review (bookmarked)
prepared answer sheets with AP ID, your initials, and page numbers

This last FRQ is one that you have done before!  You can do more FRQ's if you want, but it's time to start winding down the intense studying, no need for last minute panic! Read through your Princeton Review casually, know where all the information can be found.  Read over your lab notebook, try to understand what you've done in each lab.

2006 #8  20 minutes

Due:

Testing

Hello Chemistry Warriors!

You are almost there.  No FRQ's today, you review whatever you need to.

Gather your testing materials, make sure you have labeled your answer sheets, if you are going to use a document it needs to be properly labeled as well.

The word from the district office is that the testing website was lagging for copy and paste.  If you are going to use that route to submit, be prepared for some lag and give yourself the full 5 minutes to get your answer submitted.  Don't try to keep working until you have one minute left!  That goes for everybody, stop working when the timer says 5 minutes left and get your answers submitted.

Prepare yourself for the fact that this test is going to be DIFFICULT.  I have tried to provide you with lots of FRQ's so that you have a good sense about how questions are asked.  Remember, your questions tomorrow will have more parts than you can answer.  That's good!  Pick and choose what you want to answer.  Read the entire question first, then get busy.

Stop studying by 7 pm this evening.  Relax, if you don't know it by then you aren't going to learn it!

Please think of this testing situation as a learning experience.  You have worked hard to prepare to have this experience.  Try to enjoy it, I'm not kidding.  Very few people have this opportunity and you have provided this for yourself.  Be proud of you :)  Grit goes a lot farther in this world than a high IQ....

Due:

Zoom Office Hours Mon, Tues, Wed and FRQ's

Good Morning AP Chem,

You are almost there, hooray!  I will be available on Zoom today, tomorrow, and Wed from 1-2.  I won't be giving any announcements, I'm there for you to ask questions.  The ID is the same  697-510-5122

Today is the last big set of FRQ's I will be assigning, tomorrow and Wed I will only give you one.
This is heavy on titration.  Review the lab in your lab notebook, read about it in the Princeton Review lab overview chapter and read in your text pgs 150 - 153.

2015  #3 a,b    10 minutes

2018  Everything EXCEPT #2 e,f   5, 6  About 1 hour

Good luck staying focused.  Keep adding to your own personal reference sheet to use during the actual exam.

Due:

Photo Submission and FRQ's

Good Morning AP Chem,

I'm going to post a new assignment to the GC.  You need to submit a photo of 2014 #1.  I will be looking for legibility.  Write dark, label answers clearly, and box the final answer for calculations.  We talked about different ways of submitting phone photos during Zoom, they are:
1. Email yourself the photo as an attachment.  Open the email on your computer, download the attachment to your desktop, choose the photo to submit.
2.  If both devices are Apple products, airdrop from phone to computer.
3.  If the devices are Android, you can use your phone like a thumbdrive.
4.  Save the photo to your google drive and then access the google drive on your computer.

Weekend FRQ's     Remember, you are doing YOUR best to learn as much Chemistry as possible!  Try to remain focused, it's almost over.

2013  Everything except #2   Note - #4 Net Ionics, your exam will not look like this, but still do them.

2019  Everything except 1f-h, 2b, 3f-h

Try to stay positive during this VERY challenging time and do something helpful for you Mom on Sunday :)

Missing all of you!  After the Zoom I realize how much I appreciate your bright spirits, truly.

Due:

Testing Technology and FRQ's

Good Morning AP Chem,

Thanks to all who joined the Zoom yesterday.  It was good to see everyone and I hope it was useful for you.  Tomorrow I will post the methods for getting your answer photo to your computer desktop, along with the resources you should have on hand during test taking.  Today I want to focus on your devices.

I cannot get an embedded link to the test demo to work.  So please, type cb.org/apdemo   into your browser to get there.  If you can't get the page to load that means your device as it is configured will not allow you to test.  Update your Chrome browser and make sure it is your default browser.

IMPORTANT!  Today and tomorrow you can still check out a chromebook from the school district.  All you need is your school ID.  Tomorrow is the last day they will be checking computers out.  Go to   https://sites.google.com/sandi.net/instructionalcontinuityit/technology-support-for-families   to find the nearest location for pick up.  There is no distribution at Pt Loma High.  If you are having trouble with your computer I suggest you check one out.  You don't have to use it, but at least you've got it in case you can't get your tech figured out!

Today you will do 2017, everything except 3c,d,e and 7.  This is about 1 hour of answering.  Try to answer everything first, before you look at the scoring guidelines.  At least complete one question before you score it.  Read the entire question before beginning.  This practice is tedious, I know!!!

Due:

Zoom ID for Wed and FRQ's

Good Morning AP Chem,

Today, Wed 5/6, I will be holding a Zoom meeting at 2 pm.  This will be all about testing logistics.  Make sure you have paper and something to write with!

Zoom Meeting ID  697-510-5122

2 out of 3 FRQ's for today are about Gravimetric Analysis.  This is a lab technique using precipitation to determine, quantitatively, what's in solution.  Read your Princeton Review before doing the problems.  Generally, the description is in the Lab Overview chapter.  Specifically, instructions are in Big Idea #3.  You might want to go over Combustion Analysis in that same chapter now that you've done the 2012 beast!

2011  #2 and 6   45 minutes

2014 #1  25 minutes

Attached you will find my answers to the combustion analysis from yesterday, parts c and d.

See you in a little bit!

Due:

Join at 6qditfq

Good Morning AP Chem,

Today your assignment is to join our Google Classroom at   classroom.google.com       Join code is 6qditfq
Joining is how I will take attendance for this week.  Spread the word.

Then you need to figure out a way to submit a photo of your answers to FRQ 2004 #8 from yesterday.  Do not use the Google Classroom mobile app!!!
I will give you instructions about how to do it tomorrow during the Zoom session, but for today I want you to TRY to do it yourself.

I'm not assigning any new FRQ's for today.  You can go back and practice any from the previous links I've given you.

Tomorrow I will post a pdf with handwritten answers by me for the beast of 2012 #2 from yesterday!  I will assign you a couple new FRQ's, as well as the Zoom meeting ID.

Keep working people :)  Sorry about the mix up with the practice demo, it was wishful thinking on my part that it was a Chem practice!

Due:

Gases and Combustion Analysis Updated!!

Good Morning AP Chem,

Attached is net ionic equation practice that goes in the center of your lab notebook.  #20 is a combination and also a redox.

As many of you have noticed the AP classroom has FRQ's associated with the progress checks for each unit.  I'm going to assign them tomorrow so they are easy to find.  I will not be counting them as problem sets.  I would like you to read them over, answer them if you'd like, and send them to me if you want to.  You don't get to see a scoring rubric, which isn't very helpful for you and why I haven't assigned them already.  The big thing I want you to keep in mind as you are looking them over is that many of them have a text field for you to type into.  Your EXAM will NOT, don't get confused by this.

Look for your tech practice exam info and test confirmation email today.  I was mistaken, this is not going to be an AP Chem practice exam, bummer!  This is only going to be a practice for your tech, all subject areas have the same test "demo."  Super frustrating :(      It doesn't look like there's going to be a specific chem practice.

2004 #8  20 minutes

2012 #2  25 minutes   Thoroughly read pgs 97 - 98 in your textbook before you begin.

Due:

PC 7, Exam Info, Weekend Study Plan

Good Morning AP Chem,

Great job to the 50 or so of you that continue to do the Progress Checks.  It is how I take attendance and they will count as problem sets.

I have unlocked progress check 7, equilibrium.  This is the last one.  Don't get discouraged if you aren't doing as well as you'd like, they are difficult, just keep plugging along.

It would appear that college board did not send you the testing guide.  I have attached it again.  READ the ENTIRE document.  Share it with your parents so they know how to support you.

On Monday college board is unlocking a practice exam   cb.org/apdemo   as well as sending you an exam confirmation email.  People you NEED to do the practice exam.  You don't have to do it Monday, but shortly thereafter.  It is the ONLY way you can sort out your technology and make sure it works.  They will send you an email when it's unlocked.

Finally, you need to spend the weekend with the Princeton Review.  Read everything (I'm not kidding.)   You aren't responsible for Big Idea #3 galvanic and electrolytic cells.  Big Idea #5 entropy, free energy, voltage and favorability.  Big Idea #6 stop when you get to Ka, Kb.  Everything else is fair game.

OK, that's plenty for now.  Please spread the word about the testing guide, many people are not reading these posts.  I miss you all and wish we were going through this together face to face.  We will Zoom next Wed at 2 for Q and A.  I will post the ID Wed morning.

Due:

Grades and AP Testing Guide

Good Morning AP Chem,

I am required to submit your grade as of 3/13 tomorrow.  Therefore, I am going to delete the last two assignments in Power School until next Tuesday and then I will put them back into the gradebook.  Remember, all the multiple choice work in AP Classroom is going to count as another problem set.

I have attached the College Board testing guide, read it!  YOU are RESPONSIBLE for knowing this information.

Finally, two FRQ's about thermochemistry.

2016 #1 no b     20 minutes

2002 #5   25 minutes

In tomorrow's post I will talk about Zoom sessions and your weekend study plan.

Due:

Thermochem

Hello AP Chem,

I have unlocked Progress Check 6, thermochem, on the AP classroom.  Before you start it please complete the attached worksheet about thermal equilibrium and heat capacity.  It is an assignment that I usually give on a sub day, but didn't get the chance this year.  The answers are on the last page of the document, but try to do it on your own first.  Also, after the worksheet, review your notes and Princeton Review Big Idea #5 before trying the Progress Check.

Yesterday I received a pdf from College Board about testing details.  If you did not receive this 51 page pdf (mostly graphics, don't worry)  email me so I can post it for all of you.  You have to thoroughly familiarize yourself with everything in the document.  They are uploading a practice test on May 4, do it, I'm most worried about technical difficulties that you will encounter.  The practice test will allow you to sort all that out.

Last day for exam refund is tomorrow.

Hang in there hard workers!!!!

Due:

Kinetics FRQ

Hello AP Chem,

Here are links for 3 FRQ's that I'd like you to complete today.  Beginning today I'm going to give you a time frame for each question.  My advice is that you completely move through the question in the time frame and once time is up, score it, then start looking up information for parts that you didn't understand.  Also, start making yourself a personalized "equations" sheet, notes that you can use during the actual AP exam.  You are going to need to be very smart and organized about the information you want handy in the midst of the exam.  The time is going to go fast during testing!

Remember, you can never do too much FRQ to prepare for this exam.  Do other problems in the links that I am providing.  Practice makes... better :)

2019 #6  9 minutes

2014 #7  9 minutes

2012 #3 b-f    20 minutes

Email me with questions or concerns.  Stay strong and get a little sunshine during the day to help you sleep better at night.

Due:

Kinetics Multiple Choice

Good Morning AP Chem,

I have unlocked Progress Check 5 on the AP Classroom, multiple choice all about Kinetics.

Please keep working!  Next week I will run some Q & A's on Zoom.  I will let you know more about that at the end of this week.

Due:

Unit 4 Chemical Reactions

Hello AP Chemistry,

I have unlocked progress check 4 in the AP Classroom,  all about chemical reactions.  I'm really glad to see that more than half of you are doing the work!  Keep it up, this is not the time to break down.  I will be using this progress check to monitor your attendance for next week.  I used progress check 1 for this past week.

Remember, you can always do FRQ's other than the ones I assign.  Use the links for any of the old exams.  Though the format of the exam now is different than prior to 2014, the types of questions continue to be recycled year after year!  I would only caution you to be sure of the things you will not be tested on this year.  Ka, Kb, buffers, titration curves, delta G, delta S, and electrochemistry (units 8 & 9).  Otherwise have at it.  If you have any questions about whether a topic will be included, email me.

Keep in mind, this is very challenging.  If college Chemistry was easy, we'd have a lot more scientists, engineers, and doctors in this country!

Have a good weekend :)

Due:

FRQ Du Jour

Hello AP Chem,

Are you having fun yet?!!

FRQ's for today come from the 2017 exam.  If you haven't read about chromatography yet in the Princeton Review or your textbook, please do so.  In Princeton Review it is in Big Idea #2, Bonding and Phases, "Solution Separation."  Your textbook, pgs 11-12.

Due:

Progress Check 3

Happy Earth Day AP Chem,

Help remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, plant a tree!

I have unlocked and assigned Progress Check Unit 3

Keep working...  Don't give up!

Due:

Assignment

Hello AP Chem,

Attached is net ionic equation practice that goes in the middle of your lab notebook.  The first one is a combination ( one product) reaction, the second one is redox.  Before you look at the answer for 18 try to determine what is being oxidized and what is being reduced.

FRQ for today, #7, 2005

Due:

Assignment

Hello AP Chem,

I hope everyone had a nice "weekend"!

I have unlocked Progress Check 2 on the AP classroom.

Attached you will find a pdf of the Unit outlines for chem.  You can access them from your college board student page, but this way you can have them handy.  Look at what the topics are, study them, then do the multiple choice.  One thing we have not gone over is Formal Charge.  Read about it in the Princeton Review.

The other thing that is very important is to make sure College Board has your correct email.  If you have been consistently getting email from them then you are ok.  But, log in and check your personal info to make sure.

Take care and be helpful at home!

Due:

Assignment

Hello AP Chem,

I have unlocked Progress Check 1 on the AP Classroom.  This correlates pretty well with Big Idea #1, have the Princeton Review at the ready!

It looks like all of the correct answers have an explanation as to why it is the correct answer, so look for that after you have completed the progress check.  My advice is that you do this with someone.  Treat this like a warm up, in that you can discuss with a friend the question.  Find a partner, facetime, zoom, dischord, chat, anything!!!  Access the questions at the same time.  Discuss the question, discuss the answers, choose an answer together.  I would not recommend this process for the FRQ's, but more about that next week.

Multiple choice, if it was going to be on the exam on 5/14, is about 1.5 minutes each.  The above assignment shouldn't take you three hours!  Move through it, this is meant to be review.  The real practice is in the FRQ's.

I wish we were in class to go over any questions that you have.  Email me, please, with anything you don't understand.  On Monday I will unlock the Progress Check for Unit 2.  It correlates with about half of big idea #2.  If you have access on the student page about the contents of the "Units" please review them.  I will make a document for you next week with all 7 units you will be tested on and the topics in each unit.

Hang in there, the hard work has begun, preparing for this exam is very difficult in the best of times.  I believe in each and every one of you!

Due:

Assignment

Hi AP Chem,

Complete PLReview3

Tomorrow I'm going to assign a "Progress Check" in the ap classroom.  It is 25 multiple choice, selected by College Board, about Unit 1.  Content includes mols and molar mass, mass spectroscopy, elemental composition of pure substances & mixtures, atomic structure & electron configuration, PES, periodic trends, and valence electrons & ionic compounds.

FRQ for today is 2009 #5 no f(i)

Due:

Assignment

Hello AP Chem,

Please complete PLReview2  (Hint: when comparing equilibrium concentrations it is impossible to compare product to reactant concentrations without knowing the value of K)

For free response I am assigning #1 from 2018

Have a good day!

Due:

Assignment

Hello AP Chem,

There is a set of multiple choice for you to do in the AP Classroom, PLReview1, you will get problem set credit for doing this.

I will talk more about how I think you should be using these multiple choice later in the week.  Today I want to talk about the AP exam.  It is May 14, online, at 11 am, 45 minutes.  There will be two free response, both long form.  One 25 minutes(app.10 pts) and one 20 minutes(app.8 pts).  We have done both types in class.  Yesterday's stoichiometry, etc. is a 10 pt question, today's Beer's Law is an 8 pt question.  So, 25 minutes, then 5 minutes to upload, 20 more minutes, then 5 minutes to upload.  You cannot go back to question 1 after it is uploaded.  You will do a couple of free response in the ap classroom in a couple of weeks just to practice the uploading procedure.  Yes, technically this is open notes/book, but let me assure you, there will not be time to rummage through your stuff to figure out how to solve a problem.  You are going to be under a time crunch, please don't assume you can use your resources for every part of a question.  Practicing free response is how you will truly prepare for this thing, multiple choice is really just for review.

I will continue to assign a free response every day.  I'm not doing it on the ap classroom because I feel that it is important that you score your own answers.  I will give you the link to the question and the scoring guidelines every day.  I recommend that you do this with a friend, talk about the scoring.  Answer the question on your own, but decode the scoring together, distantly of course.  We will do newer questions and older questions.  The new form of the test, since 2014, has no 8 pt free response, only 10 pt and 4 pt.

OK, I think that is enough for today.  Stay positive :)

FRQ for today, #5. (20 minutes)

Assignment

Good Morning AP Chem,

I just updated powerschool.  I gave everybody a 100% for the problem sets and notes that you have done since being at home.  There will only be one more grade that I put in for everybody and that will be completing the multiple choice that I post on the college board ap classroom site daily.  More about this tomorrow.  The site is running horribly this morning.

As you all know, your grade cannot go down from where it was on 3/13.  It can go down a bit from where it is today if you neglect to do the daily multiple choice.  The only way to raise your grade significantly is by "passing" the ap chem exam.  I will be receiving your exam responses very quickly after you submit them on May 14.  If you "pass" based on historical percentages I will give you a perfect 15 pt score in the testing category.  If you don't pass, or don't take the exam, I will leave that assignment blank and it won't count for or against you.  To pass in my book you will need to get a 38% or above.  I have no idea what the passing percentages will be this year, so don't make any assumptions about the actual percentages and whether or not you passed according to college board.  This will be the only way to raise your grade.  I will not be assigning projects or extra credit, please don't ask.  Depending on your testing category the 15 pt score will raise your grade between 3 and 6 percentage points.  I will still round and add 1% at the semester.

I want everybody to take the exam!  You and your family's health is the most important thing during this time.  I will make no judgements if you can't.  But, if you can do it, the exam will be a TREMENDOUS learning opportunity.

From this point on the FRQ's will be for your practice only.  If you have any questions please email me.  Hang in there!

Here is the scoring guide for Friday,

For today complete #2 on 2004,  but skip d (i).

Due:

Assignment

Good Morning AP Chem,

Attached is a draft list of problem sets for the year (be kind, I have probably made a mistake or two).  Start chipping away at these to help with review.  I will still be giving you a daily assignment.  On Monday I will talk about grading for the duration of the school year.

Have a good weekend!

Due:

Assignment

Good Morning AP Chem,

First, what an impressive low pressure system sitting on top of southern California!!!

Attached you will find equation practice that goes in the middle of your lab notebook.  Both are redox, so before you look at the answers see if you can identify what is being oxidized and reduced.

Next, here are the scoring guidelines for yesterdays FRQ

Finally, PS#14, complete question #4 on the 2015 exam, this will be your last "problem set."

Tomorrow I will post all of the problem sets to begin review.

Due:

Assignment

Good Morning AP Chem,

Your problem set for today is the equilibrium free response question from the 2004 exam.  You will do a more recent Ksp FRQ tomorrow.
Also tomorrow I will give you a couple of net ionic equations to do in the middle of your lab notebook.
On Saturday I will post a list of all the problem set questions from the entire year.  Because we have a glorious 5 weeks to review I suggest that you start reworking all the old problem sets to begin the review!

PS#13  Question #1

Due:

Assignment

Hello AP Chem,

This is it, your last new topic.  I'm also going to include a link at the bottom for the Flinn Scientific lab demos, you should check them out.

Notes - Ksp

PS#12 Read pgs 737 - 747  Do #50, 53 pg 761
PR pgs 209 - 211

Due:

Assignment

Good Morning,
Again, I want to assure you that weak acid equilibrium will not be on the ap exam.  Today's notes are given in the context of weak acid equilibrium, but you will see this topic in the context of Ksp, which is solubility equilibrium. We will do practice free response in the Ksp context! The big thing here is that you not only have an initial concentration coming from the acid going into equilibrium, but there is also a "common" anion from a salt that is also "in the beaker."  In today's ice diagram you will have two initial concentrations, one on the reactant side from the acid and one on the product side from the salt .  I do realize that the notes are confusing in that both the acid and the salt have the same concentration.  It's a bad example on my part and I'm sorry for that!  Read in your textbook and in the Princeton Review.  Only one more day of notes after this and then it's all review from there :)

Notes - Common Ion Effect

PS#11 Read pgs 719 - 722  Do #15a and 17  pg 759

PR  220-221

Due:

Assignment

Good Morning AP Chem,
Hope you were able to relax a bit over the spring break.
The AP Chemistry exam will be on Thurs, May 14, 11 am, online.
There are only two topics that we still need to cover, the Common Ion Effect and Ksp.
The common ion effect is really just an application of Le Chatelier's principle.  Historically it has been taught in the context of weak acid equilibrium.  Therefore I am assigning notes and one problem set about acid/base equilibrium.  The problem set today, as well as #8,9  WILL NOT be on the ap chem exam, but you need the understanding for the common ion effect.  Then I will relate it back to Ksp.

Recall, strong acids are strong electrolytes, they totally dissociate.  Weak acids and bases are weak electrolytes, they only partially dissociate.  They reach equilibrium before the entire concentration dissociates into cation/anion.  Therefore, weak acid and base pH problems are equilibrium problems.  They need an ICE diagram.  Strong acids and bases do not.

pH of a Weak Acid

PS#10 Read pgs 681 - 688, do #60, 59, 57  pg 713

Assignment

This is it for a week!  Though I anticipated a quarantine, it doesn't make it any easier.  It's time for me to regroup :)

First, I have attached both the equilibrium test review questions and answers.  Do it a couple of times!

Second, sign in to your college board account and complete the 2 question practice that I have assigned.
About half of you have done it already, good job!!  We will be using this format to help with AP exam review and I will be giving you credit for doing it.  It is mandatory.
Take advantage of all of the review resources college board is providing.  They are writing your online exam, use their review stuff!

Third, dig into your Princeton Review.

We have completed Big Ideas 1, 2, 4.  You can practice with all of those multiple choice and free response.

Read over chapter 9, the laboratory chapter.

Big Idea 3 - everything except electrochemistry, which we will cover later.
Big Idea 5 - everything except delta S and delta G, which we will cover later.
Big Idea 6 is equilibrium.  Use it over the break to study Le Chatelier's principle, disturbing equilibrium!

Finally, hang in there all of you.  This is a strange and difficult situation.  I cannot stress to you enough, as a scientist, stay home!!  I will still be checking my email over break.

Assignment

Good Morning AP Chem,

I have assigned a quiz on the AP Chem classroom.  It is only 2 questions.  This is practice for more to come.  Please log in to our class on the college board website.
Please pass the word to others that this process has begun.
I highly recommend that you watch the live lectures of the review sessions given by the college board.

I am also going to post tomorrow's notes and problem set.  I need to go trade in my modem for a faster one today, so I may be out of touch tomorrow!
Wish me luck!!!

Due:

Assignment

Hello AP Chem,

How did you like PS#7?  I would imagine that using the quadratic equation outside of math has probably been the highlight
of your home isolation :)

The following are links to the problem set for today, #8.  Do all of #1 from the 2008 Free Response.
Scoring rubric is also attached.
Stay home!!!!  I miss you all and am sorry that our year was cut short.

Due:

Assignment

Hello AP Chem,
There aren't any further notes for this chapter, today's problem set is more practice.

Read 648-653
Do # 55, 72  pg 662-663
There is a typo in 72a, should be grams CO produced.
The reaction will reach equilibrium before going to completion, ICE necessary.

Due:

Assignment

The jargon for Le Chatelier's principle is confusing.  Shift right means the forward reaction rate will momentarily increase,
shift left means that the reverse reaction rate will increase momentarily.
Temperature change can be especially troublesome, it is the ONLY disturbance
that can change the value of K.  Reading will help!!!

Notes - Disturbing Equilibrium

Read 648 - 655
PS #6  Do 51, 52  pg 662 - 663
