About the class-

Ceramics 1-2 is an introductory course in clay arts, focusing on both handbuilding techniques (pinch, coil, slab, sculptural forms,) and introductory wheel throwing. Students will explore design principles, cultural and historical contexts of ceramics, and glaze application while developing their creative voice.

Students will use Canvas for access to assignments and resources. All grades, however, will be put into Powerschool, not canvas.

About the Instructor-

My name is Abigail Rhodes and I am a ceramics art educator. I’m absolutely thrilled that I now have the opportunity to teach ceramics in a classroom studio. I find great joy in the detailed process of creating ceramic pieces. Starting with a ball of clay and transforming it into a finished, glazed piece of artwork is something that’s truly beautiful. I’m inspired by my amazing students and I can’t wait to see the creations they come up with!

Education/ Experience-

I graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in fine art with an emphasis in education after attending Grossmont Community College through the Covid 19 pandemic. I also got credentialed in art though SDSU where I did my student teaching at the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. I have around four years of experience in ceramics and three years of art teaching experience.
