PLHS NJROTC Updates

Greetings, Parents, Guardians, and all other stakeholders!

Not unlike any other year, your Cadets have been busy with a jam-packed schedule of JROTC events.  Thank you for your unconditional support in ensuring their and the unit's success.

Fundraising
The boosters have sent a notification about our fundraising campaign with Schoolfundr.  Here is the link to visit and to share.  We request that you assist your Cadet with adding at least 20 valid emails to their profile and to spread the word with your contacts.

Our ongoing fundraiser is RaiseRight, a gift card and online shopping campaign.  Create an account, and you can tie in a card you use and some of the proceeds used at restaurants will go to the PLHS NJROTC.

Events
Tomorrow, October 17th, the unit is participating in two separate events.  Massing of the Colors is a ceremony for the national ensign with dozens of units displaying with their individual color guards, music from the Lincoln HS band, and a gun volley by the Sons of the American Revolution.  This takes place at the Organ Pavilion at Balboa Park with ceremonies beginning at 10:30 am.  Participating Cadets will need to meet at the classroom by 9:15 am.

Our Raider Teams will compete at the Murrieta Valley HS's Murrieta Mayhem.  We hope to repeat their winnings from last year (two events) or better.  Cadets will need to report to the classroom by 5:15 am.

As with almost all our events and competitions, you are welcomed to attend as spectators. Like athletic teams, our Cadets need your physical support to continue encouragement and success.

Advancements
There will be a few rank advancements of Cadets that have met the requirements for the next higher rank.  They will be advanced during their respective platoon's class period.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Regards,
Andy Lista, SCPO, USN (Ret)

Point Loma HS NJROTC - Upcoming Events

Greetings, parents, guardians, and stakeholders of PLHS JROTC!

We have just kicked off our fifth week of school, though I usually communicate earlier in the school year for a quick welcome.  PLHS JROTC has always had a busy schedule throughout the calendar year including summers.  This year is no exception.
Your Cadets should have come home with their uniforms, the Naval Service Uniform (NSU), earlier than usual, which they will be required to wear every  non-holiday Monday throughout the day and for a graded inspection. As teaching them a sense of responsibility is one of our main tenets, a little reminder from you could help nudge them in that direction.

Here are some important events coming up that you and/or your Cadet may be involved in:
  • Sep 9 - Academic League, PLHS JROTC hosts versus Madison & Canyon Hills
  • Sep 10 - Open House, please see the flyer for details
  • Sep 12 - Cadet Picnic, Cadets report to the classroom by 7:30 am
  • Sep 19 - Basic Leadership Training, Cadets report to classroom by 6:30 am, and parents are invited for the 5:00 pm graduation at Coronado HS football field
  • Sept 23 - Academic League, away at SDHS vs SD, Hoover, and Crawford
  • Sep 25 - Miramar Air Show, anticipate bus return after 5 pm
That is it for now.  We do have a full schedule filled with competitions, community service, parades and ceremonies, and promotions, on top of regular school day activities and academics.

Feel free to contact LCDR Field, our senior instructor, or myself with any questions or concerns.

Follow this link to read our recent newsletter created by your Cadets.

Additionally, you can find more information on our events and daily plans through the unit's website.

Thank you for a successful first semester.  The Cadets and the unit are not able to accomplish much without your support, whether it is allowing them to participate with our teams and other events outside of school hours, providing goods and snacks to enjoy as well as for nourishment, lending a hand with the booster club ([email protected]) in support of our Cadets, to name a few.

I hope you enjoy a safe holiday season with our winter break kicking off this Friday for a return to school on January 5th.

Best,

As always feel free to contact the instructors for any questions or concerns that you may have at [email protected] or [email protected] or via phone at (619)860-5000 ext 2007 or 2008.

PLHS JROTC Journal

Greetings!

I have not posted since the start of the school year as we have been keeping up with our high optempo of a schedule.

Coming up this Saturday is a color guard meet hosted by Fallbrook Union High School for our three competitive teams with our transportation departing at 6:30 am.  Also on Saturday is the Massing of the Colors where dozens of color guard units, including our own, will participate in celebration of our national ensign at the Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park, and it is open to all spectators.  This color guard team is separate from those competing at Fallbrook.

Later in the month, we will be assisting local feeder schools with their respective fall festivals:  Oct 24th at Ocean Beach Elem and Loma Portal Elem.  Oct 25th will be Silver Gate Elementary's Harvest Festival.  In all events, our Cadets are volunteers with the game and food booths, cleanup, and other duties as needed.  Each event counts towards being rewarded the Community Service ribbon to be worn on their uniform.

To see how busy we have been last month, see the attached newsletter put together by your very own Cadets.

*You are receiving this post because you have provided me with your email address with your Cadet's paperwork this year or in previous years.  If you wish to not receive further notifications, please let me know and I will remove your email address.
