HI KIDS- a couple of thoughts on where you need to focus your studying once you have finished the chapters and all of the essays, which will be turned in to Google classroom - haven't got that set up yet... I am setting up some folders on google classroom but haven't figure out how to use them yet.....yes, I am on the distance learning curve......

 

BIOTECH-  we didn't get to do the 3 biotech labs that I usually do during exam review.  I am going to put up some info and link on biotech stuff and you need to go through all of the readings and activities.

LABS-  again, we did not get through all of the labs.  It is very important to watch all the Bozeman lab videos (or others), go through all of them in your prep book, and I will be assigning some other lab review..

FORMULA SHEET-  you will need to able to use all the formulas, and watching the AP lectures and working out the problems will help with that

 

No particular new assignment.  You have lots to study and review.  You should also be working on Albert questions-they are truly your best example of hard FRQ's.

HI Kids,

First, a short note about canceling the exam.  Yes, you can get your money back until April 30.  My thoughts are if this is stressing you out and you're not feeling good about this test, then by all means, get your money back.  I do feel this exam is going to be very difficult, and if you feel you would be better served focusing on your other AP exams, I totally understand.  That being said, the rest of you that are going for it, just keep working, doing all the AP lectures and review, and try to keep up with the assignments I give you. 

 

You have a 4/9 frq on protein today on AP classroom.

Hello AP students!

I wanted to make sure you had the latest information about home exams, resources, and the option to cancel your exam.  Here are a one-pager and slides that I made to help explain the changes.  

Home exams:

 

• Exams content will ONLY be on material that schools should have covered by mid-March.
  
• 45-minute home exams during May 11-22 using any device available.
• Students who submit work samples (art, CSP, capstone)  have until May 26 to submit.
• World Languages will ONLY have speaking.
• Anyone with an extra time accommodation will automatically have that added to exam platform.
• More details about how to use online exam platform and how to support other exam accommodations coming later this month from AP.
• If a student absolutely cannot test in May, there is a June option but all are encouraged to test in May.  Any student who needs this must get approval from their AP coordinator ASAP.

Resources:

• MyAP Classroom = continue to use your MyAP classroom account - you will need to be able to login to complete your exam so if you can't login,  call AP's customer service to fix (888-225-5427).
• AP YouTube Channel = lessons will finish the curriculum then begin exam review
• Parking Lot = living doc for questions
• Need a device or internet? SDUSD is distributing devices now and AP is asking anyone in need to complete this form (note: I don't know what that support is exactly but I know they have lots of hot spots!)

Cancel exam(s):

• Before you decide to cancel, please review the exam changes for this year, plus explore the resources in MyAP Classroom and the YouTube lessons.
• Full exam refunds are being offered to students who cancel by April 30.
• The only exception to full refunds are students with credit card fees or who registered late with $40 fee.  
• Contact your AP Coordinator and/or District AP Coordinator (that's me!) to cancel your exam(s) and request a refund.  List of School AP Coordinators

I have graded the 3/30 FRQ's on AP classroom ( or viewed them, and commented...), and you only have today to finish that FRQ before it closes

 

I have assigned another FRQ for today on AP Classroom, to review some ecology from yesterday's AP lecture

I am learning how to use Google Classroom, which we will probably only use for you to turn in the essays I assigned 3 weeks ago at the beginning of the STAY AT HOME.  You will be submitting all of those essays to me after April 27, once I get this all figured out.

HI Kids.  I know about half of you have signed onto Google Classroom.  Hopefully the rest of you will do this.  I am not quite sure how or if I will be using Google Classroom- I am working on learning how to use it.  I am hoping to have you submit the essays I assigned, but I don't know how all that works quite yet.  Stay tuned on all of that.

 

Today's lecture on AP online is on ecosystems, so they are moving away from Evolution.  I hope you are all watching the videos and participating in all of the problems and homework they assign.  I do believe this is going to be SUPER important, as they are preparing you for the new test and only college board really knows what they are going to throw at you.

 

In regards to the test-yes, it is open note.  That being said, my guess is it will be very difficult and your notes probably won't help you too much.  It is going to be short, fast, and intense and your preparation is most important.  Once you have made your way through the book, your personal review should start.  Hopefully in a week or so you will be reviewing on your own and with the college boards resources and tasks I give you.   Only you can monitor your studying- this is going to take self discipline and self management.  As I have said before, this is great practice for college, and it is just what we are faced with at the moment. 

 

Starting probably next week, I will be assigning more review quizzes and FRQ's through AP classroom.  If you have already finished the book, then start review on your own with your prep book, really focusing on the topics you struggled with the first time around.  Read, reread, reread.....and watch Bozeman!!!!

 

There is going to be a class schedule coming from the district regarding ZOOM or other office hour type of classes- there have been a lot of ZOOM hacking issues so the district is trying to figure all of that out.  For now, please continue to email me at [email protected] and I will answer everything I can.

I have scored the 3/30 FRQ for those of you that have submitted it.  You only have until tomorrow to submit this, and then it closes.   I am just guesstimating your score on the response, so no worries.  All of this is just to get you ready for the exam, no grades at the moment, as you know.

So, my internet is down and hopefully will be back on line tomorrow when they come to fix it.  So, for today and tomorrow please watch the AP lectures and continue to try and finish the chapters in the book.  My plan is to have you turn in all the essays that I assigned last week on the body systems to Google classroom, but I don't know how to do that yet, or if it is even possible?  I was in the process of learning Google classroom when my router went down, so hopefully next week I will have more knowledge...As i imagine most of you know, we will not be back at school this year.  So we are all faced with this new reality.  We will figure it out and we will get through this!!!!

Friday's AP video was, again, no new material,but good practice on test questions.  It sounds like they will be covering topics other than evolution soon....

Well, the second AP lesson did not present us with any new material.  I think the first 3 lessons are just trying to get you used to the format of the lessons.  Keep watching them and doing the problems along with the teacher.  We would be doing the same thing in class.  Hope you all are well.  We get 20 minutes tomorrow to go to our classrooms and get all of our stuff....geez...20 minutes, really????  Yep, so I am going to sprint around the room gathering my plants, computer, books, etc, and also try to put stuff away.......these are some trying times you guys, for all of us  But we will persevere!!!  miss you guys, Ms Maas

I hope you watched the first AP webinar.  I thought it was good.  I know we have covered all the info they did, but please do all the practice problems as they do them and do all the guided practice within the class, also the homework problems.  I do think this is going to be very important in getting ready for this exam as it's all new, unchartered territory at this point.  Your foundation is strong- you just need practice on problems-all stuff we had started to do and would have been working on for the next 6 weeks. 

 

Keep working on finishing the book.  Keep healthy and safe and please try and get exercise daily-it will make you feel better and you want to stay healthy!  Our PE dept has put up some short little workouts that would be a great start.

Hi.  I hope all of you have read about the district's plan to start Distance Learning, for a grade, by April 26.  Teachers will start training on April 6.  Well, we have been doing the distance learning thing already and we will continue in this fashion, probably for the rest of the year- unless I find a much better way.  Anyway, today starts the AP lecture series put on by college board.  It is at 1-1:45 pm.  You can watch it anytime after that also.  Please do, and please keep on working away at everything.  I have not assigned any AP CLASSROOM stuff for a few days and will wait until next week to start a few more.  You need to get through the rest of the chapters, and   We need to keep working on essays/FRQ's.

ch42:  Respiratory surfaces, CO2 gas exchange (i already gave you that essay #2), read about the Bohr shift

 

chh43: Immunity-  you need to understand both the humoral and cell-mediated responses.  This is a tough chapter-take the time to learn it

Hope you are all well.  Please make sure to watch Bozeman on all the systems.  Super helpful.  Keep working and figure out your strategy on how to attack the rest of the chapters.  But spend enough time with each one that you feel confident that you understand to the level of the AP Prep book that you now have.....right? ......

 

Also, keep a log of the topic questions you get wrong on the AP classroom quizzes and spend some time reviewing that info.  You've got lots and lots of time.  It is without a doubt a strange and surreal kind of time.  Anyway, your next Essay #2 topic:   CO2 transport in the blood
