Description
This introductory course is intended to develop limited facility in each of the four skills listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Major emphasis is upon development of the ability to speak with accurate pronunciation and intonation.

Today we completed the four lessons on clothing on Duolingo.com.  If students were not able to complete the work in class, they have until 7:00pm tonight to complete the four lessons. 
 
The Unidad 4 Lección 1 vocabulary list was split in two.  The new vocabulary list focuses on Clothing, fit, styles, and shopping. Copy this list from the class page to your account, the new title is, Unidad 4 Lección 1: La Ropa y Las Tiendas.  Study this new list instead of the old one.
 
We also played Quizlet live with Unidad 4 Lección 1: La Ropa y Las Tiendas vocabulary.
 
Bring fashion magazines to class tomorrow. We will cut out pictures of clothes and accessories and make a poster with the various items from our vocabulary.

Continuing our study of clothing and shopping, we completed today Page 196 from our textbooks.  Each item needs a question and answer (¿Cuánto cuesta la blusa? La blusa cuesta treinta y tres euros.)  
 
We also played Mentiroso-Mentirosa with the images from the PowerPoint on clothing.

Students had a textbook check today worth 10 points. They translated the five sections from the Presentación de Vocabulario section from their textbook on pages 194 and 195.  Those that did not bring a textbook to class had to  write their Spanish vocabulary terms three times in Spanish and once in English from #41 to 72 as an alternate assignment.

Today we entered our new vocabulary list for Unidad 4 Lección 1 to quizlet.com.  We are studying vocabulary terms fro, 1 to 83 on the first page only.  The rest we will cover at at later date.   You are responsible for studying these words everyday for at least 20 minutes.  Ask your families to help you study and practice the vocabulary as well.

We focused our work today on reading and reading comprehension.  We completed the first assignment, LEER A, with the use of our vocabulary lists and answered the questions in Spanish in complete sentences. LEER C was read and answered completely without the use of the vocabulary lists.   This wil help prepare students for the Unidad 2 Lección 2 exam on Monday March 13.  They cannot use their notes nor vocabulary lists to help them on the exam.

Today the students worked on the verb IR which means to go. The assignment completed was from the textbook page 121 Activity 13. They also has to respond to questions in Spanish.

Since Thursday last week the students have been writing their essay about their families.  The essay cannot be written outside of class.  The essay is due tomorrow.

Today we began work on the essay about our family.  The students are writing in Spanish about four family members and need to research the following information about the relatives:
  1. Names o f the relatives
  2. Where they are from
  3. Physical Descriptions
  4. Personality Descriptions
  5. Things and activities they like
  6. Things and activities they don't like
The research should be done at home and the essay writing must be done entirely in the classroom without the aid of electronic translators.  Students are to write independently and may only use their textbooks and vocabulary lists to help them in the writing process.  The rough draft of the essay is due on Tuesday, February 14. 
 
Families, Help your students with their research and provide them with as much information as possible on their relatives.

This week we will do a review  of fist semester concepts.  All students received a four day packet of reading ad writing material that will help them practice some language concepts from the first semester.  
 
All students are to bring their textbooks to class everyday this week to help them with the reading and writing activities in class.  
 
FAMILIES: Review all vocabulary lists on Quizlet.com with your students everyday.  Play the vocabulary games, help your students practice all the vocabulary terms and find out which terms your student should be studying more.  This will help your student to become a stronger Spanish student.

Geography Test this Friday, November 18 on the Spanish Speaking Countries and their Capitals in Spanish.  The focus is on the 19 Spanish Speaking Countries of Latin America.
 
To practice, refer to pages 10 to 14 of the Geography of Latin America Unit.
 
"El Rock de las capitales" song by Pam Kaatz to practice the Spanish Speaking countries and their capitals.
 
The test will be a map where students will need to label each country with the appropriate country name and capitol in Spanish.  It is worth 38 points.
