Today we reviewed the preterite and imperfect past tense verbs as used in sentences. Remember that Preterite verbs express actions that happened once in the past and Imperfect verbs express actions that happened more than once or for a period of time in the past.
Homework for tonight will be more practice on the mixed preterite and imperfect past tenses as used in sentences. Reference any new vocabulary from tonight's assignment in the glossary of your textbook.
Don't forget we're making Licuados (smoothies) and Pico de Gallo (fruit salad) this Friday in class. In order to ensure that we can make this happen for everyone to enjoy in class, bring any of the ingredients to share in class.
Pico de Gallo: canteloupe, watermelon, jicama, mangos, cucumbers, papaya, apples, limes
Licuados: bags of frozen berries or fresh berries, bananas, apple juice, milk, yogurt, ice cream
Bring any other fruit item that would be ideal for the above.
We'll also need disposable bowls, cups, and forks.
Unless I gave you prior approval, Do not bring baked goods or candy.

In class we watched music videos from the Colombian singer, Juanes. Did you see the video for "La historia de Juan?" We also completed the crossword on preterite verbs. For homework, complete the 20 preterite sentences on the backside of the crossword.
On Friday we'll see a clip from a Spanish comedy "Días de fútbol." Be prepared to able to write about the clip and make predictiond in Spanish about what happens next in that clip.

We did a class translation of the song "La historia de Juan" by the Colombian rock musician, Juanes. Remember that this song is about the important social issue of child poverty that exists in many Spanish speaking countries as well as other parts of the world. This song also has focused vocabulary in the preterite, featuring regular and irregular preterite forms.
For homework tonight, complete the grammar activity on irregular preterite verbs on the backside of today's song, "La historia de Juan." Also, you are expected to learn all of the irregular preterite verbs and their conjugations as well as the regular verbs, "panqueque" pancake verbs, and the -car, -gar, -zar verbs.

Today's classroom practice focused on both the present and preterite tenses with the activity titled Balancing Act. On the front side of the page, write the translations from either English to Spanish or vice-versa. Today we reviewed the homework from the workbook page 31 on irregular preterite verbs ir, ser, ver, dar, and hacer. We also had bookchecks for our course textbook, Avancemos 2. If you cannot find your textbook, bring this to the attention of Ms. Hancock and Ms. Cooper at the PLHS library. Today in class we completed Activity 13 of page 71 from our textbook. Remember that the Indirect Object Pronouns (IOPs) are used with verbs like dar to explain when something is to/for someone/something. The IOPs are attached to the end of an infinitive verb or placed in front of a conjugated verb.
For homework tonight, complete Activity 15 on page 72 from your textbook Avancemos 2. Write the five sentences in the preterite tense. Be mindful of the irregular preterite verbs: regular, -car, -gar, -zar ending verbs with changes in the yo form, and the 5 totally irregular preterite vebs. Bring your textbooks to class again at our next class meeting for your bookcheck worth 10 points.

For the past 2 days we wrote a three paragraph essay in class. On Wednesday we wrote the first rough draft, today we wrote the second rough draft. Tomorrow we'll share our essay's with a classmate and identify the reflexive and nonreflexive verbs in that person's essay.

We took our vocabulary quiz on parts of the body and reflexive verbs and worked on rewriting the short story "La rutina diaria de Jose" from the 3rd person (Jose) to the 1st person (yo). Our focus in the rewriting is to carefully translate all verbs to the "yo" form and to change the reflexive pronoun from "se" to "me." Tonight's homework is to complete page 76 from your softcover workbook, Avancemos 2 Cuaderno de Practica. Also if you did not complete the rewriting assignment in class today, then finish the rewrite at home tonight and return tomorrow.

Today we celebrated el dia de san Valentin, and we translated the terms of vocabulary associated with san Valentin. We then completed a wordsearch for these terms.
We also reviewed the reflexive actions found in the short story "La Rutina Diaria De Jose." Remember that all reflexive actions need reflexive pronouns (ME TE SE NOS SE).

Our class activity involved a "cloze" activity. First the students independently translated the lyrics of the song "Esto es lo que hago" from Spanish to English, then the students listened to the song and filled in the song's blanks with the words that we heard sung in the lyrics.
