Today we talked about math as a language, and came up with lists of words to use when discussing operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

There is no homework due tomorrow. Please make sure you did the assignment from last night, which was to define "simplify", "operation", and "expression". Today in class we took a short math skills diagnostic test, did several problems on the mini whiteboards, and played another round of bingo. Please remember to bring your interactive notebook every single day!

On the LEFT page of your interactive notebook, write your own definitions for the following vocabulary words:

1) simplify

2) operation

3) expression

You may use the textbook, the internet, a dictionary, or even another math teacher. The goal is to write the definition in a way that you understand.

Please write a paragraph describing a "real world" problem that math could help solve. Note: you don't actually have to come up with a solution, just describe a problem (for example, world hunger) and how math could contribute to the solution (calculating how much money rich countries could provide to help feed poor countries).
