okay this is the electric car project these are the materials that you have you have a couple of traction bands couple of Wheels couple little wheels for different gears a nut and bolt you have a cable clamp to a service a motor mount you have a motorist a switch an extra wire a battery pack a paint stick to use the chassis those are the things that come with your kit then the other things that you  how about a couple of axle to those couple of axles and couple of things you might need also it's handy to have a screwdriver flat-head screwdriver or you can use a Philips either the screws so either one of those will be helpful a drill as helpful a glue gun is helpful these are available in the classroom all I can do some drilling for you hopefully we'll get some glue who refills this is all that's in this room right now so hoping to be able to get this car done with just that amount so here we go first thing you might want to do is take your traction bands and put them around the big wheels when you try to do this when they're on the car you're putting a lot of pressure on and attends to snap things off when you don't want them snapped off probably the first thing traction dance  tattoo hard to take them off if you want to take them off later but to put them on tends to be a little pressure and you might want to make sure that you're not going off the the side of your tire here because this might hit the side of the track if you have the rubber over the side hear the rubber hits the side of the track and it's really like breaks it plastic it's the side of the track intense of scoot right along so get that one on good  second one okay so the traction bands are on okay next we're going to drill a hole to mount the motor no I like the back wheels to be over this little part of the paint stick that has kind of the cut out right here so what I usually do is right around here I'm going to drill a hole just a little bit up because what's going to happen is and we can Mark a whole here I would like this to be just slightly in front of the middle of this the tires will be there the gears will be just a rotten lb giving a good push on this so I'm going to line it up with this a little back grab something to Marky Mark with a pencil  so looks like somewhere around in here is where you're going to drill so maybe you can see it's at the front of that kind of right in the middle so I'll take my drill right here okay so there we go we have our hole drilled in there and now what can I do is I'm going to mount the motor on their butt before I melt the motor I'm going to do is I'm going to put the smallest gear the smallest gear here of the bar that fits on the spindle from the motor  kind of got a push it on hard it's meant to fit tight so it doesn't slip while the spindles turning and then what we're going to do is put the cable clamp around the motor and then the turn the bolt  through both sides of the cable clamp like this  and then through the hole that's drilled in paint stick or chassis and then we would take the the not get that on the I can start tightening that up no no matter how much we tighten this up is going to this is still going to have a tendency to spin because this is only connected at one patient and it's  way on the outside of all the weight of this so I will tighten it down some to guess you don't do I've got my hands over the back here I'm holding the screw the the nut with my fingers and I'm and I'm turning with the screwdriver the top of the screw till it's fairly tight okay now you can the still has a tendency to turn so when we're all done here what we're going to do is put a little hot glue down here on this side too so to be anchored on this side with the screw will be anchored on this play me some hot glue then it won't turn but we want to wait till this is lined up to to Anchor this it so we'll just kind of set that aside a little bit here next thing we're going to do is start to get our Wheels ready to be put on  the I am going to use the typical gear that you'll use on your axle will be not the small of the three that are left in not the biggest but the medium one and what I'm going to do is start getting that on one of these axles so when I try to push it on its really where to get that on there so there's a couple other tools that might be useful here in you want it to stick on their well you don't want this to be able to turn and not have the axle turn because here is going to be pushing this from the motor If this just turns around your axle your wheels aren't going to move so this has to be tight this connection we show you something you can use in the room okay here I have a little block it says axle hole right there this is put put for putting your gear on the X you put the axle soda look like it'll go down into that hole and then you take a little Hammer here turn it down and you can see it starting to go through now it's still really tight but we want to do is give enough room so that we could put a wheel on this side and it looks like maybe just a little little bit more than this much hanging out this side for the wheel so just a little bit more here  looks like the wheel will go on now so I'm going to one of the wheels on  so this again it's supposed to be tight I start to put it on it's not going on real well what you should do is put the wheel now down can again grab a hammer  will Taps till it's in  there we go now that's in nice and tight so this is what it should look like next thing I'm going to put a bearing around the outside so that this axle can turn inside something  we're going to use the straw as a bearing now I have to leave some room to put the wheel on the other side so I'm kind of just going to fit this over the outside and say well I'm going to need probably about that much room on the outside Sullivan Gretna scissors so now I'm just going to grab my scissors and give a cut to the straw meat a little Mark there  let's see where it is cut that off struggles around you can see that's a little long it looks like I don't have quite enough room on this side so that's okay it's a little long you just cut a little bit off now the other thing is this that I'll show you right now the problem here is the bearing doesn't fit real tight around the axle you see if I can get this up where you can see it right there there's room there for this to move around it will tend to so one thing you can do  is you can take the straw and cut this way straight up the straw  now there is I can really unroll the straw now if I wanted to make you see I flatten it out but what I want to just make it tighter so I'm going to roll it tighter so that the hole in the straw is smaller than what I'm going to do is take a little piece of tape got a little piece of masking tape here  I was just a little piece of masking tape  and tighten this up to be a tighter small ankle that maybe even fits around this a little better there we go  I just want the tape on there to basically hold it till I glue it down okay so now it's much smaller when I put this around it's a pretty tight fit it's also a little too tight on this side I feel some friction and I might want to go back and undo it to make it a little bit bigger so there's some stuff that's this isn't just going to make itself happen on its own they'll be sometimes when you have to undo thing go back and read them that's part of building and engineering and just be happy that you're able to do the stuff to have hands and opposable thumbs sosina up nominated really too tight so again another mess up think I need a new piece of tape now  so might take a few trials sorry stay calm I'm just going to put around the outside there it seems like it's pretty well a little piece of tape there just a hold it till I hot glue it down the hot glue is really what small did now it's turning nicely in there so then sod  so again it might start to go in but it's going to be real hard said it with the one you want pounded in down on the bottom here  grab a hammer found on this website  and it should go down and now we have our Wheels able to turn if I hold the bearing you can see his I hold that straw the wheels turn around the axle so that's what we were going for now we'll do the same thing with the other wheels these are a little easier don't have to worry about the gear on this one so just axle in that will pound it down and be careful you can pound it right out the other side so just nice and easy like bearing goes around this so I'm going to cut a piece  we'll see how it fits their looks pretty good and again I'm going to cut this one make it a little bit smaller than normal he's a tape to hold it  now we've got our bearing to go their axle  and then the wheel on the other side again  you going to do it this way you could do it the other way just probably going to have to use a little hammer something that you can just tap down on that anything that's heavy would probably work nice and easy there we go now this is together now these wheels can turn around that bearing okay so let's get the assert hooking up the circuit on here so the hook up the circuit here's our basic for the circuit we are going to have one of the leads going to our motor then the other lead from our battery pack so this is all with the Raypak is going to go to the motor the other one's going to go to the switch  might as well start hooking it up so what you can do is take either the red or the black it doesn't matter what works either way with the set up twist it around one of the posts  on the back of the switch and then take the other and that'll go to one of the connections on the motor put it through the little hole  and then twist make sure you don't use glue here glue is a plastic Plastics and insulator if you try to connect these with an insulator you might even make it so no balek TriCity blows the other part of the circuit we need is the extra wire you might need to twist a little bit of the extra wire to get those wires to be a little bit more like did so they stay together or else when you try to stick them through a whole Dale separate and it becomes a pain  so then through the little hole here and the other go to the switch  twisted around one thing you want to make sure that these two wires can't touch each other so you can see that that doesn't make it over to the other side we can also put a little solder on this later to hold that the other side of that wire goes to the other side of the motor this is your circuit all we have to do is put batteries in there right now and the motor will run before we do that we want to get these things hooked up so now that they're hooked up we can find out maybe where we can put them so we want to put them where there's not a lot of stress on the wires we can always tie the wires down later so I'm going to put the battery pack somewhere around right where I'm going to put a little hot glue on there to do that and then I'm going to put the switch may be right here again either hot glue or sometimes with the switch hot glue works super glue might work pretty good I'll try some super glue here but with this I'm going to use hot glue so I have a hot glue gun roll in here a little bit put out something back here if this that's stuck right on there so then be little Gorilla Glue here careful using super glue of course if you get any super glue on your fingers you can use call like nail polish remover if you can find that that can help to get it off so I'm going to put this right on here sideways a little bit I'm going to make sure there's a little on the other side like this I don't want to get glue up in that whole or could actually glue the switch and then I can't turn it on and off I need to go to the extra parts bin myself an extra and try just a couple little drops here Grill group  okay now again when working with super glue  just be very careful so I'm putting the switch on the  side right here fancy  give it a little time there so be patient turn make sure that you're glue not one thing I'm doing here is on moving a little fast I might not be giving my glue enough time to really settle you might want to take a few minutes you're going maybe watch some Dance Moms or something like that and relax and come back later and work with this so going to give this a chance next to settle in there is hooked up obviously I didn't give enough time for that Gorilla Glue to take hold so I'm going to do a little cheater here to help hold I'm going to use a little tape bar  unilateral bonding strip going to put the tape right over the switch and then all that down to the chassis till it that Gorilla Glue has little chance to dry hot glue my work better their hot glue as a Tennessee to seep into that little hole though so I'm going to put just another little dab on each side so this Gorilla Glue again I don't recommend working with Superglue too often but that's good place for okay last thing we have to do here to get this car running as to get the wheels lined up on here harder wheel is going to be the one in the back we just have to make sure that the gears line up now it's usually not best if you put one gear right over the other like line them up right does middle of the tire middle because there's it'll sit a little below the chassis when you try to connect it you might want to put it just back a little bit so in Indian straight lined up you can see that this wheel is back I'm exaggerating a little bit this way from the motor to the motor just kind of pushes against that gear so line things up here looks like somewhere around here is going to be where we want to so now hot glue again going to start to put the hot glue around the earring  now this is where you're going probably put a lot to get this stabilized in here  so don't be shy with this glue at this point we have plenty to work with and be careful of running this before your flu is had a chance to really solidify straighten up a little bit right looks like we'll have a pretty good  hold now the other wheels and it kind of check to move this around now it's still a little Mountain movable and I want to try to make it pretty straight and also I want the gears to be lining up the gear on the on the motor there you can see can the gear on the axle or lined up the axle looks pretty straight across that's kind of an eyeball thing  and then let that cool  we can put the other Wheels on the other Wheels can go anywhere you can cut this off make it shorter whatever you want I'm just going to take the wheels and put him somewhere up you're near the front  try again try to eyeball straight you don't want to put it on like this or else that's going to tend to turn your car I'm add rating it of course  so pretty straight there don't forget you can move some things after you get the glue on there pile on some hot glue pretty good get it lined up pretty straight go back check the back one that's getting pretty solid right there so give a minute for this hot glued Harden  and then we have two things left to do put the batteries in and secure down the would that little drop igloo in the back you also might want to tape down the wires at this point and then if you want to you can think about making a body for your car to either get the extra points while you're racing or to enter the design competition this is still really really moist so I'm hesitant to a  do anything with it right now  one thing I do want to see is usually with your back wheel you're going to have a little play it'll move in and out a little bit you want to make sure that it does not come off the gear when you're moving it in and out so if you watch this one when I move it all the way in it bill on the gear Why move it all the way out it's still on that gear if you have too much play in it comes off the gear that could be something to slows it down while it's running when you're those to come from one another  so let's see I hope this isn't it's still not really dry but see how this goes now put a little bit of hot glue here on the back glue down the motor it's in a good position course you're going to let that cool down and solidify  we can take a little tape and take these wires a little bit now so they don't get caught up and stuff on matter really how you take them down looks like that Gorilla Glue didn't work too good around my switch so I think I'm going to go to some hot glue here  switch doesn't even need to be glued down it'll work just fine like this but I like to have things secured yeah that Gorilla Glue is just right yes I'm just going to leave it there and let it go so let me put a couple batteries in this thing and we'll turn the switch on and see if it actually works and see if we car that's good grab some used batteries here I don't know how good they are hopefully I grabbed some that have a little juice left in them so I can put batter in the normal way that my car hope it's already going to switches on trim switch off here so I put my batteries in normal when I turn on the car moves backwards maybe I don't want my car to move backwards so you can see his I Let Go whoop There goes so what I can do here to make my car move forward just take these out they put them in the way they're not supposed to be in there  set up putting the flat side against the spring you put the flat side on the other end put the one also now you'll notice when I turn it on car goes forward so you can run this forwards or backwards it's ready to so now the only thing is that switch is still a little  sketchy there so you might want to if he use some super glue and you didn't give it enough time like me the reason is I didn't enough time is that this is your razor here you ready to go you ready to bring it in put it on the track write your name on the bottom here and permanent marker and good luck if you want who make a nice body around the outside and see you can get some extra credit when you run or get in the competition so good luck building eraser
