Point Loma High School

TRYOUTS

Dear PLHS Cheer families,

We hope you are well.  We have all been waiting patiently for several weeks now, unable to move forward with any specific dates or plans for the coming year.  However, we were recently given permission to hold virtual tryouts, so we're excited to get started with that process right away!

If you haven't already done this, please follow this link to complete the "interest" questionnaire, indicating your interest in trying out for one of our 2020-2021 PLHS Sideline Cheer Squads:

https://forms.gle/2L73TJHA6wdWpDxi7

The tryout application is (here), and the tryout contract is (here).  When you sign and submit the application, you are acknowledging that you have also read and understand the contract. We have extended the deadline for applications to 5 PM, Wednesday, 6/3.  Links to tryout videos and routines are posted via links at the bottom of this message.  Note - athletic clearance is not available at this time.  We will let everyone know when it is.

Coach Jesse will be scheduling one Pre-Tryout Meeting via Zoom.  Everyone who has completed the interest questionnaire will receive an invitation to that Zoom meeting.  This will take place on May 27, at 6 PM.  Meeting ID: 722 549 4243, Password: EnKfsh39.  Parents and cheerleader candidates should plan to attend.

The next step in the process will be clinics.  Optional clinics will be held via Zoom on June 1 and 2, from 11-12.  The coaches and current cheerleaders will be present to answer questions and offer guidance.

Individual interviews (via Zoom) with the coaches and advisor will be held on June 3, 4, and 5.  Candidates will be sent a Zoom invitation with an assigned day/time.  The interview should take about 5 minutes.

Tryouts are June 10, 11 and 12, via Zoom.  Cheerleader candidates will be sent a Zoom invitation with an assigned day/time.  Tryouts should take 10-15 minutes. Tryouts will be held with up to 4 cheerleaders at a time, and will be live on Zoom. The sessions will be recorded for judging afterward - the judging panel will consist of the coaches, advisor, and other cheer professionals.

Please continue to check this site regularly for updates.

While we may not have all the answers currently, you are welcome to send us your questions. Jesse can answer questions about what a typical season may look like (though again, that is currently undefined by the District) and the Boosters can answer questions related to uniforms, camps, fundraising and costs related to all items.  Click (here) for an estimate of 2020-21 costs per cheerleader.

Rest assured, school officials have been working hard to keep us informed as updates are available and we sincerely hope to have additional information for you soon!

Lastly, if you know someone who may be interested in trying out for Cheer, please send them this information!

Stay safe and hopeful!

Sincerely,

Jesse Santos Chavez
