Welcome to the 2018-19 school year. I have taught Seminar and AP English at Point Loma High School since 1993, and have taught high school and middle school English in the SDUSD school district for 36 years. I have been the GATE Program Lead Teacher at PLHS for 23 years and served as the PLHS English Department Chair for three years.
This year I am teaching two sections of Advanced English 1-2 Seminar (9th), two sections of Advanced English 3-4 Seminar (10th), and one section of AP English Literature (12th). I am currently the PLHS club advisor for the Water Uganda Do? Club that raises money for bore hole wells and educational tools for schools in Uganda. I am also the advisor the the school's Interact Club, a service club that works closely with the Point Loma Rotary Club.
I love reading and discussing great literature with my students. I strive to help students become stronger and persuasive analytical writers through practice. modeling, and peer and instructor feedback. Creative expression through the arts is another important aspect of my classes. I encourage students to enjoy experimenting with different forms of creative writing and to share their unique interests and talents with their peers.
I grew up here in San Diego and attended Patrick Henry High School. I earned my BA and MA in English and my secondary teaching credential in English at the University of San Diego. I have my GATE Tier 1 and Tier 2 certifications for teaching gifted students and am a San Diego Area Writing Project fellow.
