About Us

The choir program at PLHS has been spotty at best over the past few decades. Choir organizer and former PLHS Instrumental Music Booster President, Kerri De Rosier, a graduate of Madison High School, remembers being routinely trounced by PLHS in choral festival during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Kerri teamed up with another Madison High alum and fellow choral singer, Pamila Whitney, who began directing the choir after school. They were able to hire an accompanist with funds from the Pointer Association. This school year, 2015-2016, their dream came to fruition as choir is now an elective offered during school.
The choir is particularly grateful to the PLHS Madrigals, a group of wonderful people who sang their hearts out in the mid to late sixties under the direction of Dr. Lewis Phelps. Three of them- Kathy Lazzaro ('66), Anne Colt ('67), and Mark Niederman ('67)- spent the summer of 2013 digging through filing cabinets bursting with choral music in a cluttered bathroom (of all places) in the 400 building. They found over 1200 pieces of music and organized them into a huge database that can be searched by title, composer, genre- you name it. The music is stored in eleven filing cabinets under the Music Center. Their work was highlighted in a Peninsula Beacon article in the summer of 2013. Click here to read the article.
